The Mint Perennial Plant

The mint (Mentha aquatica) is a perennial in the mint family (Lamiaceae). It is found in Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, Australia and New Zealand. It grows mainly along and in the water and in wet meadows and flowers from June to late October.


The stems are 30-90 cm long, stalked, ovoid to oblong, cut into jagged leaves. The leaves smell strongly of peppermint (Mentha x pipe rata). The plant has both aboveground and underground runners.


The reddish purple flowers by insects such as honeybees and bumblebees pollinated. The calyx tube 4-5 mm long and lanceolate teeth. The spherical inflorescence consists of one or two appearances wreaths.


Trivia:


• It is easy to multiply by vegetative parts of the foothills.

• The mint is one of the crossing parents of peppermint (Mentha x piperita).

• The ancient Egyptians and Greeks gave their sometimes kill a bunch of mint into the grave.

• Previously, the plant added as flavoring in tea.
