Lotus Uliginosus Perennial Plant

Lotus uliginosus (Lotus pedunculatus, synonym: Lotus uliginosus) is a perennial plant belonging to the Fabaceae family (Leguminosae). The species is native to Eurasia and North Africa. The number of chromosomes is 2n = 12.

The plant is 30-100 cm long, striped, hairy, ascending or climbing, often hollow stems and compound leaves quinate. The leaves are hairy on the edges with long hairs. The plant is underground runners. The roots is a bladder-shaped mycorrhiza for.

Lotus uliginosus blooms from June to August with yellow or red in flowers. The calyx teeth are set for star-shaped flowers. Petals about 11 mm long. The flowers with four to fourteen flowers in one head.

The fruit is a round, 15-25 mm long pods. The seeds are greenish yellow to dark brown.

The plant is the grass, water side / clearing on moist to wet, slightly acidic (pH of 4.5 to 7.5), moderately rich soil.

Lotus uliginosus sowing can be used for fodder production.
