The Angular Basterdwederik

The angular basterdwederik (Epilobium tetragonum) is an annual plant belonging to the primrose family (Onagraceae). The plant comes from North Africa to Europe and northern Asia.

The plant is 0.3 to 1 m high and has a root very short branches, which formed rosettes. The hard, bare and erect stem is angular and pale to dark green leaves with sharply serrated blade edge and whose bald. On the stem are curved, adjacent, normal hair or is bald.

Basterdwederik angular flowers in July and August with pink flowers 4-8 mm long, that the button upright. The corolla has four petals cut at the top. They do so with a heart thinking. The stamp is shaped like a club.

The fruit is a 7-10 cm long with four valves are opened capsule. The seed is pappus.

The angular basterdwederik occurs on moist, nutrient-rich or very slightly brackish ground felled areas, ditch banks, sandbars, and is regarded as weeds in gardens.
