The Yellow Star Field Blossom

The yellow star field (Gagea villosa, synonym: Galea arvensis) is a bulbous plant from the lily family (Liliaceae). It is a plant of rather dry, calcareous soil: found on grass and shaded by hedges. The yellow star field occurs in Eurasia and North Africa. The species is on the Dutch Red List of plants as very rare and moderately decreased. In Flanders, the plant extinct.

The plant to 10-25 cm high and at the foot sometimes two or three linear leaves. The field star yellow flowers in March and April with sulfur yellow flowers. The flower may consist of two to ten petals. The flowers are hairy and steal the flower wrapping them to the outer coat. The inflorescence has two non amplexicaul bracts.
