colchicaceae Features

Glorious
Gloriosa is a genus of the family colchicaceae (Class. phylogenetic), originating in tropical Africa and Asia. Since, according to the traditional classification, however, should be attributed to the Liliaceae, the plant is called even, occasionally, climbing lily. This is also the national flower of Zimbabwe (Rhodesia).

Features
Typical of this plant is the presence of the tip of a vine leaf strange thing for a plant of monocots, the Glorious indeed is climbing. It is valued for its unusual beauty of the flower has six tepals yellow and red or orange with wavy edge. Loses its leaves during the winter season (the dry season in his land, that cold in temperate countries). The underground tuber retains a reserve of energy to use for the next life cycle. All parts of the plant contain the poisonous colchicine.
